Village Creek State Park in Wynne gives visitors the opportunity to follow the experiences of the Choctaw Nation during the Indian Removal of the 1830s with the film "The Long Walk" on March 5. The Choctaw were the first of the Five Civilized Nations removed from their homeland, and several detachments traveled along a section of the Memphis to Little Rock Road, a portion of which lies within the park boundaries. Sponsored by the Southern Tenant Farmers Museum, the 4th annual Tyronza Quilt Festival is slated for March 5. Quilts will be displayed at the museum and at churches throughout Tyronza. An evening of live music, dark mysteries of magic, juggling and manipulation, dance, comedy, absurd history and ghosts are what you’ll get on March 5 when The UFOs take over the historic Collins Theater in Paragould! The UFOs present the “Rock ‘n’ Roll Alien Sideshow” live on stage with the 2011 edition of their popular show. Learn about Arkansas’s French and Spanish period when Arkansas Post National Memorial in Gillett presents a Post Colonial Encampment on March 5. Reenactors share stories of life at Arkansas Post before it became a part of the United States. Small arms demonstration will be given throughout the day. Parkin Archeological State Park in Parkin hosts another popular Artifact ID Day on March 12. Archeologists will be on hand to provide insight (not appraisals) on identification and age of objects and artifacts. Contact Parkin Archeological State Park at 870-755-2500 for details.

Dr. Dig-It returns to Hampson Archeological Museum State Park in Wilson for Digging History on March 19. Participants will learn how archeology helps recover the stories of the past, and join in a short “dig” to experience the methods used in discovering our history. Help the staff of Lake Poinsett State Park in Harrisburg keep Arkansas beautiful! The park hosts the Great American Cleanup on March 19. Participants will assist in picking up litter and other activities to help make the park more beautiful. Safety vests, gloves and trash bags will be provided to participants. Paragould offers four live music events each month: KASU’s Blues Monday, KASU's Bluegrass Monday, and WoodSongs, along with the newest addition, Terry’s Café Acoustic Bluegrass Jam Session. Blues and jazz performers from the region perform the third Monday of each month in downtown Paragould for KASU’s Blues Monday. The next Blues Monday is slated for March 21 at 7 p.m. Inspired by the national public radio program “Michael Johnathon’s Old-Time Radio Show,” WoodSongs is held the fourth Saturday of each month at 6:30 p.m. and consists of entertainment from local songwriters and performers. The next performance date is March 26. Blues Monday and WoodSongs are held at the Red Goose Deli in downtown Paragould. Every fourth Monday, Terry’s Café, located at 201 S. Pruett St., welcomes bluegrass enthusiasts for the Acoustic Bluegrass Jam Session. Music starts at 4:30 p.m. and ends promptly at 6:45 p.m., just in time for KASU’s Bluegrass Mondays. The music is free and dinner specials are available. KASU hosts Bluegrass Monday on March. 28 at the historic Collins Theater, featuring an open jam session for local musicians at 5 p.m. followed by a live bluegrass concert at 7 p.m. For more information on the events contact Main Street Paragould at 870-240-0544.

Enjoy a morning of fishing with your young angler at the Junior Fishing Derby at Cane Creek State Park in Star City on March 26. Youngsters ages 15 and under will compete for small prizes. Bring your pole for a morning filled with fun! The fishing derby starts at 8 a.m. and participants will meet at the park’s visitors center. Want to learn more about geocaching? Village Creek State Park in Wynne hosts a Geocaching 101 workshop on March 26. Learn the basics of geocaching, including how to use a GPS to find a cache, trackable items such as travel bugs and geocoins and tips to make caching an enjoyable activity for the entire family. Lake Frierson State Park in Harrisburg offers a Hunter Education Class on March 28-31. The class encompasses topics ranging from firearm safety, hunting ethics and basic outdoor survival skills.
